In an official statutory circular issued from the federal capital, the Government of Pakistan, through the Cabinet Division, has officially notified Monday, November 9, 2026, as a nationwide public holiday in observance of Iqbal Day. The national holiday commemorates the 149th birth anniversary of Pakistan’s national poet, philosopher, and ideological founding thinker, Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
According to the directive, all federal ministries, statutory divisions, subordinate departments, public sector autonomous bodies, state banking institutions, and diplomatic missions across the country and abroad will observe a full day of closure.
Coordinated notifications have also been promulgated across all provincial secretariats—including Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan, alongside the Azad Government of the State of Jammu and Kashmir—extending the holiday to provincial civil administration offices, municipal authorities, public and private educational boards, universities, and judiciary courts.

- Civil Services & Consular Desks: Federal ministries, visa and passport application processing centers (DGI&P), National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) mega centers, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) consular counters will halt public verification counters for the day, resuming normal public document processing on Tuesday, November 10, 2026.

Interbank electronic settlements via RTGS/PRISM and automated digital banking rails (ATM networks, online banking, and RAAST instant fund transfers) will remain operational.
- Academic Institutions: Public and private sector schools, intermediate colleges, medical colleges, and higher education universities will remain closed, with scheduled examinations and academic intakes adjusted to subsequent dates.
2. Ceremonial Tributes and National Observance
The nation will observe Iqbal Day with solemn dignity, marked by state ceremonies reflecting on Allama Iqbal’s intellectual contributions to the creation of Pakistan:
- Change of Guard at Mazar-e-Iqbal: The traditional, ceremonial change-of-guards ceremony will take place at the Mausoleum of Allama Muhammad Iqbal in Lahore, where a smart contingent from the armed forces takes charge of guard duties.
- Floral Wreaths and State Homage: Military commanders, provincial governors, chief ministers, and civil dignitaries will visit the mausoleum to lay floral wreaths and offer Fateha on behalf of the state and the people.
- National Philosophical Seminars: Academic institutions, literary academies, and cultural bodies will host conferences exploring Iqbal’s philosophy of Khudi (Selfhood), intellectual revival, social justice, and political sovereignty.
